Well hello there everybody! Welcome to This Week In Yankees Baseball! The Boys From The Bronx are off to a great start, and they´re boppin´ home runs in true Yankee style.

They took over sole possession of first place on Monday with a 4-1 win over Tampa. Mark Teixeira was duely honored as the American League Player of the Week, congratulations Mark! Tex earned the award by swatting five home runs and knocking in ten. That wrist sure must be feeling good. [related category]

It was Chase Whitley´s turn to shine on Tuesday. Chase turned his first start of the year into his first win, as the Yanks beat Tampa again 4-2. But the unfortunate news was that Masahiro Tanaka was headed to the 15 day disabled list with pain in his wrist and forearm. It should be a seven to ten day shutdown foe Masahiro.
After a 13 inning marathon  loss to the Rays on Wednesday, the Yankees got an off day on Thursday and headed to Boston. Alex Rodriguez finished the home stand still one homer short of Willie Mays on the all-time list. But with the score tied on Friday night against the Red Sox, Alex hit number 660 to give the Yankees the win.

On Saturday Nathan Eovaldi took the mound. The combination of a blinding afternoon sun and Eovaldi´s 97 plus mph fastball had Boston batters squinting like near-sighted beavers. Nathan held the Sox to two runs in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. Brett Gardner collected three RBI and Dellin Betances struck out all four batters that he faced to earn his first save of the year. Betances may have struggled in spring training, but he sure has turned that around in a hurry.

And on May 4, 2001, Derek Jeter went two for three and Paul O´Neill went three for five as the Yankees beat the Orioles 6-5. The Bombers did it with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to come from behind for the win. Mariano Rivera slammed the door on the O´s in the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season.

How about that!
