With another week of action in the books, it’s time to check out the winners of this weeks edition of the Yanks Go Yard Minor League Player of the Week!

Single-A Charleston RiverDogs (15-9)

The Charleston RiverDogs dropped two out of three games to the Asheville Tourists earlier on in the week, but rebounded to take two-out of three from the Hickory Crawdads to close out this week of play. The River Dogs currently sit at 15-9 and in first place atop the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League.

Batter of the Week: Angel Aguilar (.333, 2 HRs, 3 RBI)

Aguilar was recently promoted to Charleston, and has started off on a roll. He’s hitting .333/.364/.619 and has smacked two home runs and seven hits in first 21 at bats as a RiverDog. He has been playing third base for the RiverDogs, but is a shortstop by trait.

Honorable Mention: Abital Avelino (.289, 0 HR, 4 RBIs)

Avelino, another recent call up, recorded four hits this week, including one RBI and four runs scored. He also stole a base in three consecutive games, improving his total to four stolen bases on the year.

Pitcher of the Week: Jordan Montgomery (3-2, 2.96 ERA, 33 Ks)

Southpaw Jordan Montgomery tossed six scoreless innings to shut out the Hickory Crawdads 3-0 on Sunday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. He scattered four hits and four walks and his performance propelled the RiverDogs to a league-high four shutouts in 2015.

Honorable Mention: Joey Maher (1-0, 2.84 ERA, 14 Ks)

Joey Maher earned his first win of the season on May 1st, tossing 5.1 shutout innings of three hit baseball in the RiverDogs 3-2 win over Hickory. He also recorded four strikeouts in the performance.
