Well, hello there everybody! Welcome to This Week In Yankees Baseball. The Boys From The Bronx now stand 11-8 after after taking two-of-three games from the New York Mets in part one of the 2015 Subway Series and three-of-four games from the Detroit Tigers early on in the week. The Yankees are now tied atop the A.L. East with the Tampa Bay Rays, who they’ll open up a three game set against starting tomorrow night at 7:05 pm in the Bronx.

It was a big disappointment for Yankees greats Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. Both were  inexcusably left off the Sporting News Top players list. The coffee table book is popping up at retailers without an apparent update.
The suggestion that The Captain and Mo ¨have some work to do¨ is ridiculous. How can the greatest closer and the greatest short stop in baseball history not be on the list? It’s ludicrous! Either update the list or prevent the re-release of outdated material. It´s that simple. [related category]

Just as puzzling is how Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle didn´t make the top five. Certainly, Willie Mays is well deserving at number two. But just because Babe Ruth is awarded the top spot, that is no reason to bump other Yankees from their deserving spots. Baseball is too sacred to be subject to political correctness.
Anyway, the Yankees who made the list included Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, Rickey Henderson, Whitey FordRoger ClemensBill DickeyLefty GomezDave Winfield and Wade Boggs.

Congratulations fellas! On the field, the Yankees are reportedly bringing Chase Whitley up from Triple A with the intention of going to a six-man rotation. Jacoby Ellsbury is nursing a tight hip that caused him to miss the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball series finals v. the New York Mets. With Carlos Beltran struggling, Chris Young has gotten his chance and has produced. This week he played a total of six games while recording eight hits, including back-to-back three hit games v. the Detroit Tigers. Young currently leads the Yanks with a .320 batting average. He also has four home runs and 10 RBI, and he leads the team in doubles with five. Chris has certainly made the most of his opportunity since the Yankees picked him up. How about that!

On Sunday night, Mr. Alex Rodriguez moved one step closer to the ‘Say Hey Kid’ Willie Mays, hitting career home run number 659 in the first inning of Sunday’s ball game. With three home games left before the team travels to Fenway, it’ll be interesting to see if A-Rod can hit number 660 at home. If not, maybe he’ll make history by sending one over the Green Monster.

The Yankees will being a run of 17 straight games v. American League East opponents beginning tomorrow night when Adam Warren takes the hill at 7:05 pm.

Until next time, let’s go Yankees!
