Yankee Editorial: Fans Need to be Patient with Young Yankees

Adam Warren and Didi Gregorius are two of the younger players playing for the New York Yankees this year. Their transition has not been easy, and Joe Girardi understands patience is a virtue with young players.

"This is a place where it takes some guys some time to get comfortable here. New York is not the easiest place to come and play and just be really good right from the beginning,’ Girardi said. ‘We’ve seen a lot of really good players take time to adjust. And I think he’s adjusting as it goes on. I do."

Derek Jeter is not coming through the door again. Derek Jeter was a once in a generation athlete. As a rookie in New York he was able to handle the press, and play stellar defense, and be a constant offensive threat.

The youth movement is slowly starting with the Yankees, but the fans and media need to patient. Now I know Warren is a place holder for Ivan Nova, but needs the confident to pitch well until Nova’s return. The way Warren battled against there Tigers was very promising.

Now Didi’s path has been struggle. It started in the first game in the season when he tried to steal third with 2 outs. Then making some errors in the field, and not hitting well has led to lots of Yankee fans giving up on him. The media have been ruthless to Didi Gregorius. He is the best answer at shortstop right now, and could still be the best shortstop for the future.

When the next group of young players; Aaron Judge, or Luis Severino, or Robert Refsnyder people need to be patient. It is a big adjustment to the Major League, and the fans need to just be patient. I know it is a crazy thing to tell Yankee fans, (Who are used to winning) but we all need to just be patient.
