Yankees News: Marlins Claim Matt Tracy Off Waivers from Yanks
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported that the Miami Marlins claimed left-handed reliever Matt Tracy from the New York Yankees.
The Yankees called up Matt Tracy last week after the 19 inning marathon v. the Boston Red Sox in order to give their bullpen some much needed rest. His major league debut, and only appearance out of the Yankees bullpen was on April 11th, in which he allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in two innings pitched.
The 26-year-old Tracy was drafted by the Yankees in the 24th round of the 2011 amateur draft out of the University of Mississippi. Interestingly enough, the Marlins had shown interest in Tracy in the past, as they were the first team to draft him in the 43rd round of the 2010 amateur draft.
Tracy tossed a combined 150.2 innings between Double-A and Triple-A last season primarily as a starter, positing a modest 3.76 ERA, 5.3 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9. With his rookie status still in tact for 2015, it’ll be interesting to see how the Miami Marlins handle Tracy. At the very least, he’ll certainly provide some depth in their rotation in Triple-A.
