On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Series Preview Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, we turned this episode into a two-part episode. Keep in mind that we recorded this episode during the Sunday night baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

It was an eventful series in the Bronx that featured a 19-inning game on Friday in which the Red Sox won 6-5. On Sunday night, New York was able to finally break out the offense against Clay Buchholz by putting up a seven spot in the first inning en route to a 14-4 win. While the Yankees ended up having a 2-4 homestand, it could have been a lot worse if the team got swept.

On the first part of the show, I took a look at the first series of the Yankees upcoming ten game road trip, a three game series with the Baltimore Orioles (3-3). Baltimore is coming off of a series with the Blue Jays in which they gave up 23 runs in three games. That being said, this is still a team that is fourth in slugging percentage (.456) and has averaged four runs per game even without Matt Wieters and J.J. Hardy in the lineup.

Last season, New York struggled against the AL East champions, as they went 6-13 in 19 games and giving up a total of 91 runs. To get a look at how Baltimore has looked so far, I spoke with Joe Serpico, the co-editor of the Fansided Baltimore site, The Baltmore Wire to get his take on the Ryan Webb trade to the Dodgers and the struggles of Baltimore’s bullpen in the early going. Here are the other topics we discussed:

  • What to take away from Baltimore’s first six games
  • Pitching matchups breakdown
  • Wei-Yin Chen (Monday’s O’s starter) looking for a great year in his contract year
  • Michael Pineda (Monday’s Yankees starter) looking the best of any Yankee starter the first time thru the rotation
  • Miguel Gonzalez (Tuesday’s O’s starter) struggled with control in his first start
  • Why I was encouraged by CC Sabathia’s first start of 2015 (Tuesday’s Yankees starter)
  • What went wrong for Bud Norris Friday? (Wednesday’s O’s starter)
  • Nathan Eovaldi (Wednesday’s Yankees starter) takes a good first step in his first start
  • O’s hitters to watch: Joe: Manny Machado, Ricky: Jonathan Schoop
  • Yankees hitters to watch: Chase Headley and Carlos Beltran
  • What to expect from Chris Davis In 2015

In the second part of the show, I spoke with DJ Smith, the co-host of The Chowder and Champions Podcast to recap the three game series between the Red Sox and the Yankees. Here are some of the topics we touched on during that segment:
