Yankees Editoral: CC Sabathia Not Ready to Hand Over NYC to Harvey

facebooktwitterreddit

For the first time in 20 years The King of New York is up for grabs. Derek Jeter has retired, and it is a race to the top. New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony has tried to claim the throne, but his team is irrelevant and he has barely played this year. The New York Rangers have King Lundqvist, but let’s be honest, New York is still a baseball city, and the King of New York should be baseball guy. Matt Harvey, of the New York Mets, is poised to be the Next King of New York, but CC Sabathia is saying not so fast.

"“I’m just saying for every starter they have, we have the same guy who has done it before, been in World Series and won World Series games. That’s why I don’t think it’s a battle.”"

CC Sabathia makes a valid point. To be the true King of New York you have to win. Derek Jeter was perhaps the winningest athlete to ever play in this city by the end of his career.

Now Matt Harvey is a young pitcher coming back from Tommy John surgery, but the expectations are through the roof.  Harvey’s swagger and bravado has electrified the Mets fan base and the people of New York. He was an all-star in 2013, and even started the all-star game. The problem with Matt Harvey is he has never won anything. He has never even pitched in a playoff game in his young career.

It can all change this year. The Mets have a legitimate shot at being a better team this year than the Yankees. The Met fan base are so excited for this year they have made shirts saying, “Take Back New York.” As a matter of fact, former Met, now MLB Network analyst, Cliff Floyd thinks it is the Mets time to shine.

"“The Mets have what it takes to get back on the map. The other side? They’re scrambling. What’s going to happen with their rotation? Is Tanaka’s elbow going to blow out? You have questions in the Bronx and it’s time for the Mets to step up and not be afraid of the moment.”"

Do you think the Mets will be better this year? Is Matt Harvey taking over the city? Is CC Sabathia right? Personally, I agree with C.C. Sabathia. I don’t think it’s Matt Harvey’s time just yet. What do you think Yankees fans? Let us know in the comments below!
