Yankees News: MLB The Show Predicts Yankees Last In AL East
By Jason Evans
With the season kicking off in earnest today, it’s fun to take a look and make some projections for the upcoming season. Our friends over at Gamesided ran a simulation using MLB The Show 16 for the 2015 season. The Show is as real as it gets if you are into baseball and video games. (just got a copy myself this past week). Well, if we are to believe The Show simulation, it won’t be a very fun season in the Bronx.
The AL East projects to be the worst division of them all. First and last are separated by just six games. The Red Sox are projected to win the division with 83 wins, while the injury-ridden Yankees are projected to have 77 wins and finish last in the division.
Per their projections, only two players are projected to have over 525 plate appearances. One of them is Garrett Jones, who leads the team in homers (25) and average (.276). Alex Rodriguez hits 22 homers and has a .751 OPS (which I’m sure the Yankees would sign up for). Jacoby Ellsbury blasts 18 homers.
On the pitching side, Masahiro Tanaka (reduced velocity and all) has a 2.43 ERA, strikes out 259 in 236.2 innings and throws five complete games. I can’t see any of that coming true in reality. Adam Warren projects to surprise (damn straight he will). He strikes out 198 in over 220 innings with a 2.89 ERA and only walks 57.
If Garrett Jones is the one who leads the team in average and homers, than the Yankees will probably finish last in the division, no matter what the pitching does. I can’t see Tanaka or Warren pitching as many innings as the game does. I can see Ellsbury hitting 18 homers and I would be shocked if A-Rod puts up the numbers that the game says.
Anyway, hopefully the game is wrong and the Yankees are in first. Happy Opening Day!
