New York Yankees pitching prospect Domingo German may be on the injured reserved for quite a while. According to Dan Pfeiffer of Rolling Thunder, German may reportedly need Tommy John surgery to repair an injured elbow.

German, who was acquired as part of the five player trade headlined by the Yankees receiving Nathan Eovaldi and the Miami Marlins receiving Martin Prado this offseason, looks as if he’ll spend his first season as a New York Yankee on the shelf. According to Pfeiffer, the young right-hander took to his personal Instagram page on Sunday to announce the news.

German, just 22, spent the entire 2014 season pitching in the South Atlantic League for Single-A Greensboro, a minor league affiliate of the Marlins. In 25 starts, he hurled a combined 123 1/3 innings pitched in which he posted a 9-3 record with 113 Ks and a 2.48 ERA.

The Dominican native was on track to begin his tenure with the Yankees down in High-A Tampa, but he certainly had the potential to pitch his way into the starting rotation with the Double-A Trenton Thunder.

The New York Yankees have yet to confirm the report.
