Yankees News: Minor Leaguer Suspended

The Yankees have had two minor leaguers suspended for performance enhancing drugs and yesterday, MLB announced a third one in pitcher Moises Cedeno.

Cedeno was suspended for taking Celnbuterol and will be missing the first 72 games of the season. The suspension will begin when his season does in June in the DSL.

Celnbuterol is a fat burner that can be used by body builders. Guillermo Mota was suspended for the same drug back in 2012, though he claimed it was from children’s cough medicine.

The 19 year old was in the Domincian League for the Yankees, going 4-4 with a 3.23 ERA in 13 starts. He struck out 59 in 53 innings but walked 20 and gave up 48 hits. For his career, he’s 8-7 with a 4.24 ERA.

I have to admit, until this came out, I had no idea who in the world he was. The thing I don’t really like is how many Yankees minor leaguers have already been suspended this year for PED’s.  It’s a bit troubling.

I’m not sure he’s even someone the Yankees are thinking about since he’s so far away. If they were, this will just hurt his development as he moves forward.
