The New York Yankees only big-name splash of this off-season reported early this morning. Andrew Miller, who was signed on a four-year and $36 million deal, reported to Spring Training on a scheduled early time. . His early start time implies that he will be doing pitching drills and maybe even some live pitching. He was brought in as part of the rejuvenation of the bullpen.

Brian Cashman brought in numerous young, electric arms that have powerful stuff. Miller will be leaned on to lead this staff along with All-Star Dellin Betances and both are expected to compete for the closer position.

In Chad Jennings’ article he quotes Manager Joe Girardi in an interview where he states what he is looking for in the closer position. He expects to have a clear understanding of what both pitchers have to offer by the end of Spring Training. He said:

"“We’ll decide what’s best. We want to see how they’re both throwing the baseball at the end of spring training. There will be just a lot of discussion of how we feel our team is built. Could they be interchangeable? Yeah. They really could be, if you think about it. It would not be my first choice, but it’s something you could definitely think about. If you had in the eighth right-left-right, and then in the ninth, left-right-left, I don’t know. I’ve got to see where they both are at the end of spring training and how interchangeable they are, and then we’ll make a decision, but I would like to have it ironed out before we leave.”"

In what ever the case might be, the organization and fans have a lot to look forward to regarding the bullpen. The starting rotation is full of question marks but if they can put the club in a position to win by the sixth inning, then the Yankees will have one of the best records at the end of the season.

On paper, their bullpen might be the best in baseball. New acquisitions Justin Wilson and David Carpenter have already established themselves and what they are capable of. Cashman made moves which mixed in these proven players that will act as a core and high upside arms that will have a chance to grow.

Some of these young guns include Danny Burawa, Domingo German, Chris Martin, Bryan Mitchell, Branden Pinder, and Chasen Shreve. Every player has great potential and has a good reason for being brought in but it remains to be seen who will make the Major League roster. I wouldn’t count out the players who start in the farms in 2015 just because of the sheer talent on that list.

It is a list that makes you dream of the infinite possibilities. Every player is going to be given the chance to succeed because there won’t be an immense amount of pressure on each individual. They will be expected to get one or two innings before turning it over to the next guy and the next guy will most likely be one of the four proven, dominant relievers in Wilson, Carpenter, Betances, or Miller.
