YGY Radio Rewind: Nick Goody/Alex Rodriguez Episode

On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, I started off the episode by catching up with a New York Yankees’ pitching prospect that we interviewed on the radio show last season.

At this time last year, right-handed pitcher Nick Goody was rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He began his 2014 season in Tampa, where he went 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA in 12 appearances (four starts). After a great stint in High-A, the sixth round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft was promoted to Double-A Trenton. In 15 starts for the Thunder, he went 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA. Goody is one of the pitchers who received a non-roster invite to Spring Training last week.

More from Yankees News

In my interview with Goody Thursday night, I asked him about his approach to the 2015 season and what it was like to play with two of his other double-A teammates last year who will be in Tampa, first baseman Greg Bird and right-handed pitcher Luis Severino. Plus, what was it like for Nick to be the starter in an 18-inning game the Tampa Yankees won last May? Finally, with the pitch clock coming to double-A this season, how is Goody preparing for that?

The second part of the episode focused on the Yankees’ offseason as well as the latest meeting that took place on Tuesday between the organization and Alex Rodriguez. In a joint statement, it was stated that Alex “initiated the meeting” and gave apologies for things he had done in recent years.

To discuss this latest statement, I had on the show Joe Votruba, a Yankees’ fan who produces the Deminski and Doyle Show on 101.5 FM in New Jersey. Joe and I gave our takes on what we took from the meeting and whether or not Rodriguez should still give a public apology before Spring Training begins.

Our other talking points during this discussion were Joe’s expectations for A-Rod this season, his take on the Yankees’ moves this off-season that didn’t necessarily include a big splash and did he think that Masahiro Tanaka should have had Tommy John surgery during last season?

Keep in mind, next Thursday (2/19), the YGY Radio Show will be airing a live Spring Training preview show, giving you the storylines and players to watch in Tampa as pitchers and catchers have to officially report on Friday, February 20.
