Yankees News: Several Players To Be Honored Tonight By BBWAA
By Billy Brost
Tonight marks the annual Baseball Writers Association of America’s baseball awards dinner in New York City. The ceremony and dinner is being held at the New York Hilton located on the Avenue of the Americas and begins tonight at 7 p.m. ET. Several members of the New York Yankees are being honored for various things tonight, headlined by retired Yankees’ captain, Derek Jeter, who will be receiving the Toast of the Town award.
Other Yankees recipients tonight include:
- – Joan Payson Humanitarian Award
- – Good Guy Award
- – New York Player of the Year
Players such as former Yankees’ closer David Robertson has been a recipient of the Good Guy Award, given to those who don’t make life miserable for beat writers that cover the team. Unlike more high-profile players, Gardner has always made himself available for comments and insight to the media regarding his or the team’s performances, without getting snarky or rude. It just goes to show that Gardner is a true professional, and understands that media members have a job to do, regardless of what type of mood or feelings the player is experiencing at that specific point.
