Yankees and Ivan Nova Avoid Arbitration
By Billy Brost
That’s one down. Today, the New York Yankees and pitcher Ivan Nova avoided arbitration, agreeing to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal, worth $3.3 million dollars per Joel Sherman of the NY Post.
Nova, 28, is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, after injuring himself at the beginning of the 2014 season. He is expected to return to the Yankees as early as mid-to-late May, and could easily find himself right back in the starting rotation.

In parts of 5 big league seasons, the right-handed Nova is 40-22, with an ERA of 4.20–all with the Yankees, with his best season coming in 2011, when he went 16-4, and posted an ERA of 3.70 in 165 1/3 innings of work. His ERA jumped the following season to 5.01, and thus garnering him the label of Mr. Inconsistency, because from season to season, the Yankees have never quite known which Ivan Nova was going to show up. When he returns, he will compete with Chris Capuano for starts at the back end of the Bombers’ rotation. Any set backs he suffers between now and his slated return, will most likely push his return back until after the All-Star break this summer.
