Is Alex Rodriguez Serious About 2015?

It feels like it has been forever since we have seen number 13 on the field. He missed the entire 2014 season because of PED use and it isn’t the first time his name has surfaced in the same sentence. Since Alex Rodriguez’s season-long suspension, the inconceivable happened, his critics became more harsh. The fans, media, and even General Manager do not have high expectations for him in 2015. You get the feeling that he is the elephant in the room, everyone dislikes him and doesn’t trust him, but he is still invited to the family Thanksgiving because you’re blood-related.

Despite the uneasiness surrounding A-Rod, he posted a picture on his Instagram with the caption, “starting the year in the cage.” Whether it is just a publicity stunt or not, we have to give credit where it is due. He is attempting to sway his critics with a strong work ethic. Rodriguez is putting in the work well before Spring Training to be prepared for the season. He is making it clear that he wants to be productive by getting in the cage sooner rather than later. We can’t hate the guy for working hard. However, the true test will be in April when we see if his New Year’s Resolution to learn how to hit again pays off.

The Yankees have showed that they do not care much for A-Rod and his massive contract this off-season. They went out of their way to re-sign Chase Headley to play third base and traded for another DH option in Garrett Jones. Even GM Brian Cashman voiced his opinion on the matter and said he does not have any expectations for the 40-year old in 2015. It seems A-Rod is oblivious to the feelings towards him, or maybe he knows it, but is really self-righteous and shows up only to collect his paycheck.
