The two children of the fallen Ramos, are of college age and 13-years-old respectively. The Yankees’ late owner, George Steinbrenner, established the Silver Shield Foundation in 1982. The foundation was established to cover the costs of education for fallen police officers and firefighters who perish in the line of duty. The second slain officer, Wenjian Liu, did not have any children. Aside from educational costs, the Silver Shield Foundation covers counseling, tutoring, and college preparation services, vocational and trade school costs.
We here at Yanks Go Yard, send our condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the family and friends of the fallen officers, the entire New York City Police Department, and to all those who wear the shield and take an oath to protect and serve each and every day.
