Yankees Remain As Ghosts During 2014 Rule 5 Draft

After recently losing pitchers Shane Greene, David Robertson and Brandon McCarthy,  the Yankees could have  jumped all over the Rule 5 Draft. As they’ve been for the most part this season, they decided not to pick a player in the draft.

However, the Yankees have their reasons. General Manager Brian Cashman felt as though they weren’t looking to gain anyone during the draft because this allows them to have more flexibility in the remainder of the trade market.

They also felt like they didn’t need anyone immediately because they added minor leaguers Tyler Austin, Danny Burawa, Branden Pinder and Mason Williams to the 40-man roster back in November. This meant that the Yankees were almost protected going into the Rule 5 Draft.

It isn’t made a huge deal if you are silent during the Rule 5 Draft because it is one of the more ‘fun parts of baseball, and not a lot of damage is done during this process. There hasn’t even been that many key stories that have happened during the draft that have made or break a team.

What is next for the Yankees though? Well, they are still continuing to look for some pitching to fill in the holes in the starting rotation. With all of the trades that have gone on in the last 72 hours, it is time for the Yankees to be extremely aggressive and get their hands on someone like pitcher Max Scherzer.
