Yankees Rumors: Will Cliff Lee Remain a Phillie?

As the hot stove moves forward, one of the bigger questions is whether well-known pitcher Cliff Lee will remain with the Phillies organization, or will be picked up by another team?

More from Yankees Rumors

The veteran signed a five-year, $120 million contract with the club back in December 2010. He wanted to sign with an organization he believes he can win a championship with, but the Phillies have not made a postseason appearance since 2011.

What does this mean for the Yankees? They say you can’t have enough pitching. Well since four out of their five starting pitchers landed on the disabled list this season, it wouldn’t be too bad of an idea for the Yankees to consider going after Lee. It is negotiable, but definitely would come down to numbers since the Yankees are not looking to agree on another large contract, especially since he is already 36-years-old.

Lee’s season was cut short, as an elbow injury kept him sidelined since July 31. He was recently cleared to begin his workouts again, and will start them back up December 1st since he has been sick the past week.

“His strength is back now. His elbow feels good,” Amaro told Matt Lombardo of NJ.com. “We’ll know more when he starts throwing.”

It will be interesting to see where Cliff Lee lands, as many teams will definitely be expressing their interest. The Yankees could definitely use his arm, as I believe that he has a lot more gas left in the tank left to join this club and help them win another championship. After all, that is his goal right?
