It has been a little while since we have heard of the formerly loved Yankee Gary Sheffield, but it looks like he will be making some headlines quite soon.

As the Hall of Fame ballot is quickly approaching, Sheffield is a name that has been thrown in the mix. Voting will begin in January, and he isn’t sure himself on how it is going to pan out.

“I have no idea,” Sheffield told George A. King III of the New York Post.” “The bottom line is that there is no question about my numbers and what I have done and how long I have done it.”

Sheffield had a pretty good career, and put up numbers that are definitely Hall of Fame worthy. In his 22-year career, he ended it with 509 homers, which placed him 25th on the all-time home run list. He also came in 26th place on the all-time RBI list, in which he had 1,676.

Not to mention that he was also apart of seven MVP ballots. He came close in 2004 when he was with the Yankees, but lost by a hair to Vladimir Guerrero. Sheffield also finished in third place two other times.

An issue that can be holding him back that has cost a few players as well is the incident he was a part of in 2007. Sheffield was linked to the idea that he may have possibly been using PEDs, which have also effected legends like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens from entering the HOF. He got ‘busted’ when investigators found a receipt from FedEx of some cream that was supposed to help the stitches on his knee after his surgery. Sheffield claims he had no idea what was in that cream, and had no part to do with the order.

The former outfielder seems like he has a good shot of having his name called in the voting, but it is up to the voters on whether he will be able to slide by the PED incident that has been haunting other players.
