Yankees Trade Rumors: Jimmy Rollins on Radar?

The Yankees are going to do their due diligence on every shortstop name that’s available. We all know the free agents out there. We hear about their “Intrigue” in Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus. Here comes another name.

More from Yankees Rumors

In Jeff Passan’s column about Alex Rodriguez, he mentions another name for the Yankees at shortstop. Jimmy Rollins.

"As it stands, the Yankees have no plans on keeping him at his old position.“Nobody here expects him to play third,” one official said flatly. Third baseman Chase Headley could well be their top free-agent target, along with pitcher Brandon McCarthy, and the Yankees plan to fill other holes via trade, with Jimmy Rollins and Elvis Andrus among those being discussed at shortstop."

Rollins wouldn’t be a bad pickup. He’s got one year left for $11 million on his contract. He also has a full no-trade clause.

Rollins wants to win and the Yankees want to win so that could be a match.

Rollins hit .243/.323/.394 with 17 homers, 55 RBI and 28 steals. Those numbers would be an improvement over what the team has gotten at short over the past couple of years.

Of course, what would Ruben Amaro Jr. want in return? He’s been one of the faces of that franchise for years. They are clearly in a bit of a retooling phase because the guys they’ve had for so long have gotten old and the farm system hasn’t produced enough behind it.

J-Roll could be an interesting fit. The hot stove is just beginning to heat up.
