AFL Game 26 Recap: Scottsdale Loses 5th Straight Game

Down in the desert, the Scottsdale Scorpions’ (10-16) slide continues as they dropped their fifth straight game on Thursday afternoon to the Peoria Javelinas by a final score of 5-3. Only two Yankees’ prospects got the start in this game. Those two players were right fielder Aaron Judge and designated hitter Tyler Austin. Judge went 0-for-4 in the game with two strikeouts while Austin was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

The Scorpions scored first in the top of the second inning when Dan Gamache (Pirates) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Josh Bell (Pirates) for the game’s first run. Peoria would strike back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The first run would be scored on a RBI double to right field by Indians’ star prospect Francisco Lindor that scored Jacob Wilson (Cardinals). Three batters later, Lindor would score on a sacrifice fly to center by Tony Wolters (Indians) to make it 2-1. Three insurance runs would be scored in the sixth inning on a walk with the bases loaded to Hunter Dozier (Royals) and a two-run single by C.J. McElroy (Cardinals) to make it 5-1.
Scottsdale would try to rally back in the top of the seventh. Tyler Austin would single to right to lead off the inning. Later in the inning, Austin would come around to score along with Kelby Tomlinson (Giants) on a two-run triple by Elias Diaz (Pirates) to cut the deficit to 5-3. Austin had a chance to tie the game in the eighth with a man on second and two outs, but grounded out to third base to end the inning.
Rays’ prospect Jamie Schultz (2-3, 5.61) picked up the win for Peoria throwing 4.2 innings of one hit ball, striking out five and walking four. Pirates’ prospect Tyler Glasnow (1-1, 3.12) gave up two runs on three hits in four innings, striking out three and walking one in the loss. Sam Tuivailala (Cardinals) would get his fourth save of the Fall League season.
The Scorpions will look to stop the losing streak on Friday afternoon at 6:35 MST against the Glendale Desert Dogs (10-14). Joely Rodriguez (Pirates) will get the start for Scottsdale against Wei-Chung Wang (Brewers) for Peoria.
