Report: Alex Rodriguez Admits Steroid Use To DEA

According to a report from Jay Weaver of the Miami Herald, beleaguered New York Yankees’ slugger Alex Rodriguez admitted to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency back in January, the he purchased and used steroids from Anthony Bosch. For almost two years, A-Rod denied any wrongdoing, filing lawsuits against everyone involved, from the Player’s Union to Bud Selig himself. A-Rod took the scorched Earth approach prior to being suspended by Selig for the entire 2014 baseball season.

As per Weaver’s story, Rodriguez paid Bosch $12,000 per month for hormone injections, and blood work. After the meeting with the DEA, Rodriguez continued to deny having used anything illegal, and that this was a witch hunt by baseball to ruin his career. Excerpts from the DEA confession state:

"Rodriguez injected the HGH into his stomach. Rodriguez said Bosch told him the HGH would help with sleep, weight, hair growth, eyesight and muscle recovery.                                                       (h/t, Jay Weaver-Miami Herald)"

Rodriguez also stated that Bosch gave he and other big leaguers tips on how to be the MLB drug test, and according to the same report, the secret was to not use the start or end of a player’s urine stream, but only the mid-stream. It seems to have worked, as A-Rod never failed a drug test since his name was officially attached to any sample given. Rodriguez did fail the initial set of tests that were “random” that helped to kick in the more stringent testing mechanism.

Rather than rehash the entire set of events surrounding the controversy that is A-Rod, let’s just say it’s another dark cloud hovering over the 39-year-old slugger, who is attempting to return to prominence, while being arguably the most despised professional athlete since Barry Bonds.
