Yanks Go Yard Mailbag October Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, the off-season is officially here. With that in mind, it’s time to break out the YGY Mailbag. Thank you to all who submitted questions. Now let’s get to it!

Q: Don R: SF’s Pablo Sandoval … Why cant Pablo play 3rd next year for the Yankees?

A: There’s absolutely no reason why he couldn’t be the Yankees third baseman next year. Sandoval, in my eyes, is better than Chase Headley. However. both come with questions. Sandoval’s weight will be an issue. Headley’s back will be an issue. The Red Sox are going to go all in on Kung Fu Panda. It’s going to happen. Will the Yankees want to go five years on Sandoval? All he does is mash in the post-season and we all know the edict the Yankees live by and if I had a choice between the two well I vote Pablo. Plus, seeing investment bankers in box seats wearing Panda hats would be hysterical.

Q: @Molorange via twitter asks: can you see Brandon McCarthy in a yankees uniform this season?

A: I certainly hope so. You know how you offer a trade in your fantasy football league to your buddy that you feel like doesn’t have a prayer and they take it? That’s how I felt with that trade. We gave up Vidal Nuno who’s a AAA pitcher for Brandon McCarthy? Sweet. McCarthy is going to be an attractive free agent with no comp pick attached. I hope he’s back .

Q: Doug D asks: What are your thoughts on resigning Melky Cabrera. He is a free agent now; hustles and can hit and not too shabby a fielder either. Played well for us when we had him initially.

A: I think if Melky comes to New York it means he’s playing in Queens. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Melk man making deliveries again in the Bronx, however, there isn’t a spot for him unless the Yankees are willing to trade Brett Gardner. Jacoby Ellsbury ain’t going anywhere and Carlos Beltran is untradeable. Beltran can’t DH full-time since that Alex Rodriguez guy is back.

Q: @bakerlegend11 asks: What Yankees rookie do you think will make the biggest impact this season?

A: Awesome and tough question. Will Rob Refsnyder start at second? Maybe. Will Jacob Lindgren be in the bullpen? Probably. The guy I’m going to go with is Jose Pirela. The Yankees are old everywhere. The one thing Jose Pirela does is play everywhere. Pirela could be that guy who plays third one night and right the next and gives Joe Girardi a ton of options, something the Yankees haven’t really had on the bench let alone the team in recent years.
