Well it wasn’t a fun year to be a starting pitcher with the Yankees. Yeah the starting rotation looked more like the VIP section at a hospital than the staff of the Yankees. You could basically draw a red cross next to everyone who stepped foot on the pitcher’s mound. Ivan Nova went down early with a torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament and required season ending Tommy John surgery. Michael Pineda looked great in the early going, but was suspended after an incident with pine tar and then injured his oblique and was sidelined for a sizable chuck of the season.

C.C. Sabathia went down for the season with a degenerative knee and required surgery to repair it. Rookie phenom Masahiro Tanaka was stunning out of the gate, but partially tore his UCL and underwent a long rehab in an effort to avoid Tommy John surgery. Even David Phelps, a fill-in from the bullpen, went on the disabled list for a time. But the staff held together and with duct tape, super glue (The Handy Man’s go-to for all things in need of repair) and some low risk/high reward gambles, the rotation somehow remained a strength and in 2015, it will look to get better. The Yankees’ pitching should be a real strength in the coming season and there are many reasons why Bomber fans should be excited about next year’s arms.
