Would Mike Morse Be A Fit For The Yankees In 2015?

Right-handed pop (or really any pop) isn’t something the Yankees had much of in 2014. Alex Rodriguez is coming back, and hopefully, he can provide some where he plays (#forg13ve right?) Could the Yankees use more and could they get that from a team that’s in the World Series?

Mike Morse is going to be a free agent after the season. Now let’s face it, he isn’t exactly going to provide any defense wherever you may put him. However, on the Yankees in 2015 he could fit.

More from Yankees News

Morse this season for San Fran hit .279/.336/.475 with 16 homers and 61 RBI. Put him on the Yankees roster this year and he’s tied for fourth in homers and fourth in RBI. He played in 131 games this year, which is his most since his monster 2011 campaign with the Nationals.

Now where does he fit? He could DH one day, play first the next and right or left the day after that. He can give Joe Girardi a righty power bat that gives him some positional flexibility. Look, if you have him, and he’s playing in the field for you, you’re going to have to take him out for defense in the late innings in a close game.

That’s okay though. That’s why you have other guys on the bench.

The point is, is that guys like A-Rod and Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira aren’t exactly the pictures of health. Neither is Morse, but maybe rotating guys in and out of the lineup can get more results out of all parties involved.

He won’t be super expensive and won’t have to be signed for that long.

As you watch him DH in the first two games in Kansas City on Tuesday and Wednesday, try to envision him in Pinstripes next year. It’s not as crazy as you think.
