On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, I started off the show by talking about the Yankees losing one of their shortstop targets when J.J. Hardy signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension to stay with the Baltimore Orioles along with a team option for 2018. The move comes one day before the Baltimore Orioles begin the American League Championship Series at home against the Kansas City Royals. For this episode, we at Yanks Go Yard were joined by a special guest.

More from Yankees News

Robert Cohen, the author of The 50 Greatest Players In New York Yankees History, joined me on the show to talk about his book and the process that Robert took to formulate his Top 50 list. We also discussed who are on his Top Four, which would be considered the proverbial Yankees’ “Mount Rushmore” as well as a tough decision Cohen had to make for #5 on his list involving Derek Jeter. Plus, if he had to make the list again, would Alex Rodriguez move further down the list and what current Bronx Bombers have the chance to move up any future rankings as we discuss the state of the team going into 2015. Keep an eye out in the future as our site will be reviewing Cohen’s book.

Then, co-editor Billy Brost joined the show to look at the impact of the Hardy signing in terms of the Yankees’ plans for a new shortstop as well as whether or not the raise in the qualifying offer would impact the Yankees’ decision in bringing back David Robertson for the bullpen. Here are some of the other topics that we discussed during the show:

  • Should the Yankees make a push for Hanley Ramirez to be the shortstop next season?
  • Why Billy thinks Everth Cabrera could be a dark horse option for New York at shortstop
  • Greg Bird and Tyler Austin off to a great start in the Arizona Fall League
  • If David Robertson leaves via free agency, should the Yankees go after Orioles’ lefty Andrew Miller
  • Why the Yankees should not go past three years in pursuit of David Robertson
  • Thoughts on the Division Series, including the Dodgers’ loss in the NLDS to St. Louis
  • Matt Williams‘ managerial decisions in the Nationals-Giants series
  • ALCS/NLCS Picks – Hear why Billy and I both like an Orioles-Giants World Series Matchup
