Medical Comparisons Indicate Big 2015 For Mark Teixeira

Mark Teixeira is primed to have a big year in 2015, if medical comparisons are a good indication. And there couldn´t be better news for the New York Yankees.

¨Strength has never been an issue for me, and this year it has been,¨Teixeira said according to SportsInjuryAlert.com. I am hoping getting a little stronger this offseason will help me not only stay healthier, which is very important, but also performance-wise.¨

Fortunately, recent history is on Teixeira´s side. Both David Ortiz and Jose Bautista found greater success in their second season after initially injuring their wrists. After injuring his wrist in 2008, Ortiz didn´t hit a home run until May 20th in the 2009 season. While he did bounce back to have a solid year, he finished even better with 32 home runs in 2010.

As for Bautista, his wrist injury in 2012 left him with 27 home runs for the year, his lowest output in the last five seasons. He improved to 35 in 2014. More importantly, Bautista´s injury has been categorized as more similar to Teixeira´s. So, the Yankees can look forward to Tex bouncing back strong in 2015.

But Mark isn´t taking anything for granted. He has reportedly planned to begin his winter workouts early. His return to the form that won him three Silver Slugger Awards would be a welcome sight. And he still holds the Major League record for hitting home runs from both sides of the plate with 13. In 2009, he led the American League in both home runs with 39, and in RBI with 122. That kind of production would give a quick jump start to the Yankees’ run production.

And the value of keeping him in the lineup is escalated even more as the Yankees reconstruct their infield. If Alex Rodriguez returns to third base, how strong and accurate will his throws be if he has lingering effects from his hip injury? With a new double play combination, how many throws will Teixeira need to dig out of the dirt?

Regardless, if the Ortiz and Bautista results are an indication, Tex´s bat should be back strong.
