Could The Yankees End Up As Trade Partners With The A’s?

Oh man. Talk about rough ways to end a season. That’s what happened to Oakland on Tuesday night and there may be some changes coming out there in the Bay Area.  Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal wrote yesterday how that after the A’s collapse, changes could come and any and all of Josh Donaldson, Scott Kazmir and Jeff Samardzija could be available in a trade.  Well, any and all of those guys would be nice additions to the Yankees if available.

First question is how available are they? I can’t see the A’s trading Donaldson. As Rosenthal states in the article, he’s not even eligible for free agency until 2018. Though you do never know with Beane.

Kazmir and Samardzija are both free agents after 2015. Beane could be looking to fill some holes, not only at the minor league level, but at the major league level. After seeing the Royals just run all over them, they may look for a defensive upgrade at catcher. Someone like Francisco Cervelli or Austin Romine could interest them as a part of a package for either player.

If the Yankees were going to go any bigger and try and get Donaldson, you’d have to figure Eric Jagielo could be a part of that deal. Maybe a young pitcher or two.

The Yankees may have to get creative in order to add to the club. With a so-so free-agent market, maybe upgrading in a trade or two could be an option.

The Yankees got Jeff Francis from Oakland in July, but hadn’t made a trade since 2003 when the Yankees sent Chris Hammond to Oakland for Eduardo Sierra and J.T. Stotts. Maybe they can strike a swap this off-season.
