Series Overview
What is there to say? The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees came into the 2014 season, with high hopes, and aspirations of seeing October baseball. Instead, the two struggling franchises will play out the remainder of their respective schedules, knowing that while they are still mathematically-eligible for postseason baseball, it simply isn’t going to happen this season.
Injuries, inconsistent play, and failures by both front offices, have hurt the chances of both teams through the year, and starting tonight, the teams will battle to be bridesmaid to the Baltimore Orioles, who already clinched the AL East title a couple of nights ago. This series is for nothing more than pride. The Yankees just lost 2 of 3 down in St. Petersberg to the lowly Tampa Bay Rays, and now they head home for the final eight home games of Derek Jeter‘s illustrious career. If you haven’t seen the tear-jerking advertisement from Gatorade, which shows the aging veteran taking it all in one last time, take a minute and a half of your life, click the video below, grab some Kleenex, and enjoy what will be the Captain’s final march in the Bronx. Tonight begins a four-game set with the Blue Jays, and for Jeter’s sake, let’s hope the team puts forth maximum effort in front of the home fans one last time.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the Beltran family, as Carlos and his wife recently lost their unborn son due to a miscarriage. Thoughts for a speedy recovery to Yankees’ super-utility man
Martin Prado, who had an emergency appendectomy performed, and he too will be gone from the team for the remainder of the season. Let’s take a closer look at the series that begins tonight in the Boogie Down.
