There is more injury news surrounding the Yankees’ first baseman, Mark Teixeira. According to manager Joe Girardi, Tex is out of the lineup for the second game of the three game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits reported that he has been dealing with soreness in his right wrist.

Girardi also mentioned that the first baseman will let the team know when he is able to play again, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. Brian McCann will get the start tonight in Teixeira’s place at first base, his 16th game at the position this season.

Texieira has only played in 115 games this year due to numerous injuries. The 34-year-old has been having a rough second half, despite leading the team in home runs with 21. Since the All-Star Break, he is hitting just .179 with four home runs, ten RBI’s and 43 strikeouts in 151 at-bats. His average has also decreased every month since May, when he had his best batting average of every month (.241).

It isn’t a good sign for the Bronx Bombers considering that the team still has Teixeira under contract until after the 2016 season. The Yankees have to use Chase Headley more often at third base due to the appendectomy that ended Martin Prado‘s season. However, the team can use these last 13 games of the season to play McCann at first base and use a combination of Francisco Cervelli and John Ryan Murphy behind the plate. Cervelli is back in the lineup tonight as well. Another option could be the newly called up Jose Pirela, who played 12 games at first base in Scranton Wilkes-Barre this season.
