This Week In Yankees Baseball: Chris Young A Big Spark
Well, hello there everybody. Welcome to This Week In Yankees Baseball. It was an up and down week emotionally for the Boys From The Bronx. And thank goodness for Chris Young.
Young broke up a no hitter on Thursday in the eighth inning. Then he drilled a three-run home run in the ninth to give the Yankees a 5-4 win over the Rays. It was one of the most exciting victories for the Yankees all season. And it showed that despite everything that has happened this season, there will never be any quit in the Yankees.
“I don’t care how anything looks at a particular point, you have to have faith in your team,” Jeter said according to MLB.com. “At this point in the season, we can’t change anything that’s happened. We need to go out and try to win every game.”
This was exemplified again on Saturday. After a tough double header loss on Friday, the Yanks beat Baltimore behind a solid outing by Shane Green. And once again, Chris Young made a big contribution. This time he stole home to help spark the win.
¨It just says a lot about our character I believe,” Young said, also according to MLB.com. “You’re not out of it until you’re out of it. You give us one strike left in the game or whatever it may be, we still have an opportunity. All you can do is try to take advantage of the opportunity.”
And Young knows the importance of hanging in their as well as anyone. His production with the Mets this season was extremely disappointing. He was batting .205 with eight home runs and 28 RBI. But he has turned that around quickly since the Yankees picked him up.
