New York Yankees Rumors: Front Office Changes Coming?

We found out today about the Yankees VP of Baseball Operations Mark Newman retiring at the end of the season. Well, Newman may not be the only person in the front office heading out the door.

According to the Daily News Mark Feinsand, Hal Steinbrenner was probably going to let him go anyway. Not only that Hal may want to completely overhaul the front office.

Damon Oppenheimer, Jody Reed, Gary Denbo, Pat Roessler and others may be on the chopping block at the end of the season.

The Yankees kept everyone around after last season, but in a season that may make two straight years without making the playoffs, wholesale changes may be coming.

What about Brian Cashman in all this? Well, it seems like all the lieutenants are getting changed, but the General may still have his duties.

Why so many changes?

Well, I’ve documented the Yankees ineptitude to draft in recent years. There seems to be an upswing in the talent pool of late, however, no one of impact, especially on the offensive side has come up through the system. That’s why they have to keep buying players.

According to the article, the Yankees will be looking outside the organization to help fill some rolls. If the Yankees are to improve, it may be the best way to go. Getting some fresh ideas from outside after all these years may do some good.

The Yankees have to feed the beast they created. They have to make the playoffs every year. In this day and age, if you don’t develop some of your own talent you can’t compete. Fresh sets of eyes may be the way to go.
