As Yanks Go Yard continues its year in review series of all of the team’s minor league affiliates, we take a look now at the season as a whole for the New York-Penn League Staten Island Yankees. The first of this two-part series will take a look at the offense for the Baby Bombers, a team that went 37-38 and lost its final three game of the regular season. Over those final three games, the team was outscored by the Vermont Lake Monsters and the Brooklyn Cyclones by a combined score of 19-7.

All that being said, despite Staten Island being toward the bottom of the New York-Penn League in both batting average (.248) and in the middle of the pack in RBI’s (277), this was a team that was known for its ability to get the extra-base hits. Mario Garza’s team was fourth in the league in home runs with 55, led the league in doubles with 149, and fourth in .OPS (.686).

Throughout the season, there were two players in Luis Torrens and Isaias Tejeda, both catchers, who had 20-game hit streaks at one point. Plus, the team’s eight round pick, first baseman/left fielder Connor Spencer, was recently named Player of the Month in the entire month of August for the league.

We continue our top five lists by looking at my top five hitters of the season for the Staten Island Yankees:
