Pitching Matchup

Yankee rookie right hander Shane Greene will take the mound tonight for the Yankees.  Greene has impressed in his time in the big leagues this season and has certainly earned a place for himself in the Yankees future plans.  He is 4-1 with 3.09 ERA on the season.  Greene has emerged out of the rotation injury that grasped the Yankee rotation in 2014 as a legitimate starter out of the Yankee’s supposedly barren farm system.  He has show strikeout stuff highlighted by a terrific fastball.  Coming into this season, many analysts projected him to spend the year in AAA and have his best shot in the majors in a bullpen role next season.  Greene has outplayed all reasonable expectations this season and looks to add another quality start to his resume.

Opposing Greene for the Red Sox will be Joe Kelly.  Kelly is a young right handed pitcher that was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline as part of the deal that sent John Lackey to St. Louis.  For Boston, Kelly is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA.  While Kelly is still looking for his first Red Sox win, he was very effective in his last start, going six innings and allowing only two runs against the Blue Jays.  Kelly will certainly endear himself to the Fenway Faithful with a win over the hated Yankees.  However, both Brian McCann and Martin Prado have good career numbers against Kelly from their time in the National League.  Kelly will need to shut them down along with the rest of the Yankee lineup to pull out his first AL win at Yankee Stadium.
