TRIPLE A

Scranton/Wilkes-Barres RailRiders (64-67) lost to the Syracuse Chiefs (75-55) 11-2.

The Syracuse Chiefs showed why they are currently the best team in the International League. They completely decimated the RailRiders by plating eleven runs on thirteen hits. Recently signed Chiefs outfielder and former Cubs outfielder Nate Schierholtz had a huge evening. He went 3-for-5 on the night blasting a home run and driving in four. Bryan Mitchell was the recipient of a majority of the shelling allowing eight runs to cross in 4.2 innings. He struck out four, however all but one of the base runners he let aboard came around to score. Mitchell allowed seven hits and two walks. He now sits at 4-2 on the season.

The RailRiders offense literally didn’t bring much to the plate. Shortstop Carmen Angelini was the only RailRider two have a multiple hit game. Center fielder Jose Pirela drove in his 56th run of the season, however left the game early. Designated hitter Corban Joseph belted his fourth home run of the season accounting for the RailRiders only other run. Nik Turley takes the mound in game one of a new series against the Buffalo Bisons Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 PM.
