TRIPLE A

Scranton/Wilkes-Barres RailRiders (63-66) defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox (70-59) 2-0.

The RailRiders came out guns a-blazin’ to start the week. The shutout victory concluded the four game sweep of the Pawtucket Red Sox which proves one thing. Sweeping the Red Sox at any level is simply a great way to start the week. Manny Banuelos started and although he didn’t allow a run, he simply did not have it Monday evening.  It took Banuelos 68 pitches to get through just three innings, and a mere third of those pitches went for strikes. When it was all said and done, Banuelos walked six batters on the night while striking out three. Chris Leroux came in to lock things down. The 30-year old righty who has been up and down like a yo-yo this season, hurled five innings of two-hit, shutout baseball to pick up his fifth win of the season. Nick Rumbelow, who has impressed at every level this season, locked down his first save at the Triple-A level with a shutout ninth. He is looking more and more like a legitimate bullpen option for 2015.

The bats didn’t bring much to the table, but it was enough. The RailRiders combined for eight hits on the evening and, as usual, most of the production came from the first four slots in the lineup. Jose Pirela, tonight in center field, picked up a hit and two walks. Left fielder Taylor Dugas, bumped up to the two hole tonight, added to his season .317 average with a hit of his own while also driving in one of SWB’s runs. Second baseman Rob Refsnyder, getting comfortable in his new three slot, went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. First baseman Kyle Roller added two hits of his own on the night.

Zach Nuding takes the mound Tuesday night to kick off the series with the Syracuse Chiefs. Game time is 7:05 PM.
