Series Preview: Yankees Attempt To Gain Steam

After handling business down in Tampa, which has been a rarity for the New York Yankees over the past few seasons, they return home to open a key six-game homestand that could catapult them back into the middle of the AL East race along with the Wild Card race, or it could conceivably sink their ship for 2014. Several of the key acquisitions the Yankees made this past offseason, along with a couple of their trading deadline deals, simply have not panned out the way general manager Brian Cashman had hoped.

The Houston Astros come in to the Bronx, looking to play spoiler. The Bombers struggled with the Astros during their opening series visit of the season down in Texas, and that has snowballed into a season of offensive inconsistency, injuries, and more questions than answers. The Astros will take on the Yankees for the first three games of the homestand, and the Yankees are hoping to gain traction in the standings, after winning 2 of 3 from the surging Tampa Bay Rays over this past weekend.
