DOUBLE A

Trenton Thunder (60-65) defeated the Altoona Curve (54-71) 4-3.

Finally Dan Camarena broke through and picked up the win that was seemingly forever eluding him. Camarena went six innings, and while they weren’t his best, they were good enough. He allowed nine batters to reach base (six hits and three walks) but was able to get in and out of jams and only allowed two runs. Mark Montgomery lowered his ERA to 1.17 while registering his second save for the Thunder. He struck out two in a scoreless ninth, but more importantly didn’t allow any walks, which plagued him earlier this season with the RailRiders. Highly regarded as a pivotal piece of the Yankees future bullpen, Montgomery’s turn around in Trenton has to be impressing Yankees brass.

First baseman Greg Bird, fresh of his Eastern League Player of the Week award, belted his fourth Double-A home run of the year. The two run bomb came in the top of the first and sent the pace for the game. DH Jake Cave went 2-for-5 on the night leading the way for the Thunder who racked up seven hits on the night. Jaron Long gets the ball Friday night. First pitch is 6:35 PM.
