Yankees Blown Out By Orioles; Fall To Seven Out Of Division
By Jason Evans
The Baltimore Orioles did things the New York Yankees dynasty use to do tonight. Hit with power and capitalize on mistakes opportunities. The Yanks allowed the O’s to do that and they fell to seven games out of first place with a 11-3 loss.
It started off well for the Yanks offense against Bud Norris. Brett Gardner led off with a triple and scored on Derek Jeter‘s groundout. The O’s would come back to tie it though. Manny Machado doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch when Adam Jones struck out and scored on Nelson Cruz‘s sac fly to tie the game.
The Yankees came right back with two in the second. Carlos Beltran led off with a walk. Chase Headley singled. Then this happened:
The O’s would cut it to 3-2 in the third. Yankee killer Johnathan Schoop singled, went to second on a groundout by Machado, whose knee buckled and would have to leave with a knee sprain. Jones singled to drive him in.
Machado’s replacement Chris Davis would blast a two run homer in the fifth to give the O’s the lead for good.
The O’s would break it open in the seventh on an RBI double by Jones and a two run homer by Cruz after Martin Prado couldn’t make a catch on a foul ball.
Chase Whitley poured a whole bunch of gasoline on the fire in the eighth. Schoop hit his 10th homer of the year with a three-run shot and David Lough added a 60 foot infield single to bring home the 11th run.
Shane Greene will try and stop the bleeding for the Yankees against Wei-Yin Chen at 7:05 tomorrow night.
