Yankees’ MiLB Roundup for August 6th: Tampa Wins In Walk-Off Fashion
It wasn’t one of the more positive days in Baby Bombers land, as the squads went 2-5 on the night. Here are the recaps.
TRIPLE-A
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (57-60) were idle.
The RailRiders had a much needed day off, as they have time to prepare to begin their four game series against the Columbus Clippers. Bryan Mitchell will get the start for Scranton, coming in with a 3-1 record and 2.88 ERA. Gabriel Arias will begin on the mound for Columbus, entering the game with an impressive 5-2 record and mediocre 4.10 ERA.
DOUBLE-A
Trenton Thunder (58-60) defeat the Altoona Curve (50-68) 7-3
The Thunder was able to get the offense going, and put some runs on the board to top the Curve. Jacob Lindgren picked up the win for Trenton, as he pitched one solid inning, and only gave up just one hit. Greg Bird had a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI. These two teams will play the final game of the series at 7:05 PM. Joel De La Cruz will get the start for Trenton, posting a record of 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA.
SINGLE-A
High-A
Tampa Yankees (55-60) lose to Brevard County Manatees (57-51) 6-5 – GAME 1
Tampa loses a nail biter in the first game of a doubleheader. Miguel Sulbaran took the loss for the team, only lasting just 2.2 innings. He gave up six runs on five hits. Cito Culver went 1-for-3 for the Yankees, and had 2 RBI. Taylor Garrison will start the second game for Tampa.
Tampa Yankees (56-60) defeat the Brevard County Manatees (57-52) 3-2 – GAME 2
The Yankees are able to split the doubleheader, and win the second game in walk off fashion. Cesar Vargas picked up the win, as he went three innings, and gave up just one hit. Jose Rosario was a big contributor to the offense, as he went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs. Tampa will play its final game of the series with Brevard County at 7:00 PM. The starter for the Yankees has not yet been named.
Low-A
Charleston RiverDogs (56-60) lose to Savannah Sand Gnats (73-39) 5-3

Although it was a close game, Charleston couldn’t scratch across a few more runs across the board to come out on top. Eric Ruth took the loss for the RiverDogs, even though he only pitched one inning. In that inning however, he gave up two runs on four hits. Mike Ford was one of the more productive hitters at the plate, in which he went 2-for-4, and had an RBI. Charleston will begin a series with the Rome Braves at 7:00 PM. Luis Niebla will get the start for the dogs, coming in with a 1-0 record and 5.00 ERA.
Short-Season
Staten Island Yankees (24-28) lose to Batavia Muckdogs (24-28) 5-3
Staten Island couldn’t get enough runs across the board, as they couldn’t come out on top with a victory. Sean Carley took the loss, as he lasted just three innings, giving up three runs on three hits. Connor Spencer took control of the offense, as he went 3-for-4 including a double. The Yankees will continue their series with the Muckdogs at 7:05 PM. Jordan Cote will get the start, coming in with a 2-3 record and 8.13 ERA.
Rookie
GCL Yankees(1) (25-13) lose to GCL Tigers (23-17) 7-5
GCL Yankees(2) (25-16) lose to GCL Phillies (23-18) 2-1
