With David Phelps going down, the Yankees needed a starter for tomorrow night’s game against the Cleveland Indians. Michael Pineda isn’t quite ready to come back from his rehab assignment. So who are the Yankees going to go with?
The other guy they got on July 31. Esmil Rogers will get the ball to start against the Indians tomorrow night. The Yankees will be calling up a safety net of sorts to back him up in prospect Bryan Mitchell per Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
E. Rogers will be #Yankees 12th SP of ’14 when he pitches tomorrow. RHP Bryan Mitchell, scratched tonight at AAA, being promoted to majors.

Rogers has struck out five in four innings with the Yankees after being claimed on waivers, including getting the win last Sunday night against the Red Sox.
Mitchell has been up and down a couple of times between the minors and the majors, though he hasn’t gotten into a major league game yet. Between AA and AAA, the 23 year old is 5-6 with a 4.27 ERA. In AAA however, he’s 3-1 with a 2.88 ERA. He’s struck out 81 in 86.1 combined innings, while giving up 90 hits, while walking 39.
