Matt Thornton Gets Sent To Washington Nationals

New York Yankees’ reliever Matt Thornton learned today that his time in New York has come to a close, as he was claimed off waivers from the Washington Nationals.

Thornton has had a mediocre 2014 season. He has pitched 24.2 innings, giving up 23 hits and nine runs. His ERA is just at 2.55, but his struggles of late may have been what have sent him packing.

There is more to come on this story, as it hasn’t been announced whether the Yankees will receive any players, or add someone to complete the 40-man roster.
