Game 1 Review

The Yankees got a BIG win in the first of a four-game set against the Detroit Tigers last night at the Stadium. Brandon McCarthy continued his run of dominance, outpitching the reigning AL Cy Young winner Max Scherzer, en route to improving to 4-0 since he was acquired by the Yankees from the Diamondbacks right before the All-Star break.

Matt Thornton, Adam Warren, and Shawn Kelley combined to throw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, and David Robertson closed out the 2-1 victory for his third save in as many days. Just last week it looked as if the season might be a lost cause for the Yankees, after dropping 2 of 3 to the Blue Jays, followed by another 2-1 series defeat to the last-place Rangers, then followed by a crushing loss in the series opener to the last-place Red Sox. Now all of a sudden, the Yankees are hot as can be, winners of three in a row, and looking to make it four tonight.
