Game 2

The Yankees, not wanting to lose another series to a team near the bottom of their respective division, took advantage of three straight walks by Red Sox rookie starter Allen Webster to get the bats going, as Mark Teixeira hit his team-leading 19th bomb of the season. The Captain, Derek Jeter also had a nice day at the dish, going 2-for-5, with a double, and DH Carlos Beltran continues to swing a hot bat, getting a pair of knocks himself. In that third inning of trouble for Webster, the Bombers put up 4 runs, and that was what they needed, as they handed the Red Sox a series-evening loss, by the score of 6-4.

Yankees’ rookie, Shane Greene was once again shaky himself, not going long enough to even qualify for the victory. The right-hander went 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, striking out 5, and giving up a mammoth home run to BoSox first baseman Mike Napoli. Greene’s time in the rotation should be considered week to week, as the Yankees are combing the waiver wire for starting pitching help, along with the impending return of Michael Pineda from his minor league rehab assignment. Greene has been inconsistent since his 3-error game last week.

Reliever Shawn Kelley bounced back from a couple of rough outings, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless, striking out three to record the win for the Yankees. The bullpen did a solid job, allowing only 1 earned run in 4+ innings of work. David Robertson slammed the door on the Red Sox for his 28th save of the season.
