This obviously could have been worse. However, it still hurts. The Yankees have placed another starter on the DL, this time it’s David Phelps. Phelps only pitched two ineffective innings last night and left the game because of the injury.
Phelps started out the year in the bullpen, but because of all the injuries was moved into the starting rotation. Phelps is 5-5 with a 4.24 ERA. He’s struck out 89 in 108.1 innings and given up 111 hits.
With the bullpen being stretched a little bit thin, the Yankees replaced Phelps with reliever Matt Daley, so the club still has 13 pitchers.
Daley has been up and down from AAA Scranton a couple of times as well as being designated for assignment. He has a 4.85 ERA in 12 games and struck out nine in 13 innings while giving up 11 hits.
Phelps was scheduled to start Friday, but now the starter is TBA.
