Here’s Who The Phillies Wanted From The Yankees For Marlon Byrd

The trade deadline is a fun time. All the rumors and all the fun fake trades that could have happened. It’s also fun to hear about crazy demands that teams have. Philadelpha Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. was critical of teams for not being aggressive enough in trading with him. That’s why guys like Antonio Bastardo, A.J. Burnett, Johnathan Papelbon and Marlon Byrd are still on the squad. Or, maybe they are on the squad because Amaro demanded the moon, and the stars and all the planets in the solar system for his players.

If that is true, I hope Brian Cashman hung up the phone and had a good chuckle with his assistants about it. There’s no way you could do it. Instead, the Yankees will  gladly take Stephen Drew and Martin Prado for Kelly Johnson and Peter O’Brien. I wouldn’t rule out Byrd as an acquisition down the stretch if the Yanks still believe they need a bat. It just won’t be for two of the jewels of the system.
