Pitching Matchup
Shane Greene (2-1, 3.28 ERA) gets the nod on Saturday afternoon. He is making just his 4th career big league start. He gave up 8 hits and 3 runs in a no-decision against the Blue Jays in a 5-4 loss. He lost the start before that to the Rangers giving up 4 runs and 5 hits in 5 innings of work.
Allen Webster (1-0, 3.38 ERA) makes his second start for the Red Sox on Saturday since being called up. He won his first start of the season against the Rays by allowing just 3 hits and 2 runs in 5 solid innings. Webster was 4-4 with a 3.10 ERA in his 20 starts with Pawtucket this season.
The Red Sox will be without some of their key pitchers for the rest of the season. Lester, Lackey, Peavy, and Doubront are all wearing different uniforms now, so the Red Sox will be filling those holes with whoever they can call up from the minor leagues. The Yankees have had their fair share of struggles with starting pitchers mostly due to injury. Brandon McCarthy and Chris Capuano have been acquired and they look to help with what the Yankees already have and keep them in the playoff hunt.
