Pitching Matchup

Tonight the Yankees are throwing former Red Sox pitcher Chris Capuano on the mound. In the other dugout will be rookie Anthony Ranaudo. Tonight will actually be Ranaudo’s major league debut. This season he had a 12-4 record with a 2.41 ERA for AAA Pawtucket. It will be the first of a few debuts over the weekend for both teams.

Capuano joined the Yankees last week and has started one game for the team. He earned a no decision while throwing six innings of two run ball. The Yankees, while not gearing up for next season, have seen a lot of their own new faces on the pitching rubber in recent weeks. Capuano is just the latest pitcher to try to cement a spot in the rotation that has been decimated by injuries both minor and significant. He is only signed through the rest of the season, so it is in within his own best interest to dazzle down the stretch as it is important for the Yankees to keep winning.
