Around the DSL: DSL Yankees 1 Looking Sharp

The Dominican Baby Bombers were a mixed bag this past week. While the DSL Yankees 1 team climbed closer to first place, the DSL Yankees 2 began to stumble a bit. Here is a a wrap up of the hot players and team leaders in this week’s Around the DSL.

The DSL Yankees 1 had a nice week. The team rallied for a 4-and-2 record on the week and now sit at 29-20. They are in third place sitting six games out of first place. Pedro Urena, the 19-year old powerful outfielder, leads the home run attack for the DSL Yanks 1 squad. He leads the team in both home runs (6) and RBI (31). He has a nice .830 OPS as well. Second baseman Welfrin Mateo is quietly putting together a nice season. He now sits at .296 with four home runs and 17 RBI. Third baseman Victor Rey continues to slap around the baseball. He is now batting .301 on the season. Raudy Guzman simply refuses to lose. He now sits at 4-0 on the year despite his ERA doubling this week to a more human-like 1.50. He has a 49 K/6 BB ratio over 48 innings as well. Jean Ramirez has looked sharp out of the pen, sitting at 4-1 with an impressive 2.60 ERA.

Left fielder Carlos Vidal, behind an 11 hit week, is hitting an astounding .376 through his first 38 games. He has quite an eye for an 18-year old as he has walked (31) more times than he has struck out (24) which has led to an impressive .500 batting average. Andy Diaz, the 18-year old Dominican prospect, continues to be an extra base hit machine. He now has five doubles, seven triples and four home runs on the season. Second baseman Allison Reyes had a nice week registering seven hits, a home run and five RBI. Rolando Calvo keeps racking up the wins. He now sits at 6-1 on the season with a 2.67 ERA.
