MiLB Roundup For July 24th : Great Day On The Farm

The Baby Bombers had a great day down on the farm going 4-1. Top prospects like Gary Sanchez were key contributors to yesterday’s success. Here is a recap of the day’s action.

TRIPLE-A

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (51-54)beat the Gwinnett Braves (46-60) 3-1

Pitching was the story for the RailRiders, as three different hurlers combined to only give up one run.  Starting pitcher Pat Venditte tossed four shutout innings, striking out two, without giving up any runs. Jim Miller recorded the win. On offense, Taylor Dugas was the deciding factor going 1-for-2 and driving in two of the RailRiders’ three runs on a single. Dugas has a healthy average of .313.  The RailRiders will take on Pawtucket today @ 7:05 p.m. The pitching match-up will be, Matt Tracy for SWC (1-2 3.57) vs Anthony Ranaudo (11-4 2.54).

Trenton Thunder (50-56 ) beat the Binghamton Mets (61-43) 6-5

It was a close game between the Thunder and the Binghamton Mets, as they traded runs early.  Even though the Mets had the lead, the Thunder were able to keep it close enough to where they could strike and take the lead with a big 7th inning.  Top prospect Gary Sanchez got the big hit in the 7th, a two-run single, which was part of a dagger three-run inning that sealed the game for Trenton.  Another top prospect, Luis Serverino had a solid outing, but it wasn’t his best start. He went four innings, striking out seven, while giving up 2 runs.  Trenton takes on Binghamton again today. The Thunder will march Dan Camarena to the mound, Binghamton’s pitcher is TBA. Game time is 7:05 pm.

Tampa Yankees  (51-52) defeat the Ft Myers Miracle (63-38) 6-1

First Baseman Greg Bird had a big game for Tampa, smacking his 7th home run of the season and driving in two runs. Jose Rosario also had a three hit day, he  scored a run, and drove one in to improve his batting average to an impressive .382.   Caleb Smith pitched six complete, and struck out five, to earn his second win of the year. Tampa will face the Miracle again today at 7:00 p.m.  The pitching match up is Brett Gerritse (3-5 3.86) vs Tim Shibuya (7-3 3.13)

Charleston RiverDogs  (50-53) defeat  the Lexington Legends  (40-63) 10-3

It was a strong performance all the way around for Charleston, as they were able to put ten runs on the board against the Legends.  Tyler Wade had a awesome four-hit day, driving in two runs and scoring three.  He and newcomer Mark Payton supplied the offense, as Payton had two hits, a walk, and scored two runs. Relief Pitcher Angel Rincon came in, and pitched three shutout innings, while striking out four. The RiverDogs will take on the Legends again today at 7:05 pm.  Starting pitchers are Chaz Hebert (0-2 3.58) vs Luke Farrell (1-8 4.89)

Staten Island Yankees (21-19) Lose to the Tri -City Valley Cats (28-12)  14-0

The Staten Island Yankees were overmatched all game long. The bats failed to come alive, and the pitching was even worse.  Rony Bautista lasted only two innings in relief, and gave up 5 earned runs (6 in all)  on seven hits.  Staten Island will take on Tri-City again today at 7:oo pm. The pitchers will be Dillon McNamara (1-1 3.27) vs Brandon McNitt (1-0 1.74)
